Monarch education are looking to recruit an Attendance officer to start immediately for a school in Handsworth, Birmingham

Job specification:

  • Responsible for investigating cases of prolonged student absences
  • Enforce compulsory attendance laws and monitor the health and welfare of students assigned to their school
  • Identify potential health or safety situations
  • Identify potential issues such as juvenile delinquency which might be contributing to school absences
  • Provide students with support such as referrals to tutoring which helps them get in school and stay on track
  • Keep a track record of absences and analyse data
  • Liaise with parents and staff about absent and create plans around attendance

The aim:

The goal of an attendance officer is to make sure that all children are receiving an education and to identify situations where there may be a child health and safety issue so that appropriate steps can be taken.

Attendance officers are also involved with students who have discipline problems, including students who are skipping school without the knowledge of their parents.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working in a school before
  • Previous experience as an Attendance officer or similar would be advantageous
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have experience of data analysis and using IT skills to write letters and input data
  • Be able to support both young people and parents effectively
  • Be calm and approachable
